Hi, I'm completely new to the world of pedal, like most became interested in pedal cars for shows like American pickers and restorations. My question is, has anyone build a car from scratch or from a kit? I have been searching and came across some bare chassis like the link www.childishtoys.com/pedal-car-chassis.php. Are they a good starting point? I'm plainning on replicating a car I once had for my son. I would be building it out cardstock to get the shape than resin and fiberglass for strength, and use body filler to smooth. Wow now that I read that back to myself it sounds quite ambitious. Hey anything for the little guy right? Plus I think it would be awesome for him to ride around in something that use to be my pride and joy. Well back to original question has anyone attempted such a project? How are chassis kits? And also say if the car was being pushed or rolling down a hill, would the pedals also be moving or does it work like a bicycle? Thanks for your time Dao

The kit you mention has the pedals connected directly to the axle. They are engaged whenever the wheels turn, so not so great for going down steep hills! They are designed for smaller kids, about 3-6 years to put around the driveway or sidewalk. I see a lot of these imported chassis on the internet, but they are rarely in stock. Strangely, they often use the same photo; the chassis posed on a folded cloth. Anyway, search eBay under "Pedal Car Chassis" and you'll see some at lower prices (starting under $110 postpaid). I've not built one, but they look OK.
